Our Story

We are Vikas Project, a registered NGO in Pushkar, Rajasthan, India
We work with families living in tent camps, in a harsh desert environment
The families we work with are at the bottom of the Indian social hierarchy
We have a school, and medical, art, housing, food and disability programs
Our program is based on love and compassion and long-term relationships
Let's meet some of our families, and see what we do!
We helped Priya get kidney stone surgery and end years of misery
We've paid for Nitesh's (cerebral palsy) special needs school for 2 years
Helping Miss Pooja learn to walk with a walker we built
We have more than 150 artists and 10,000 archived artworks in our art program
A tablet and custom stand for our friend Chanda, paralyzed by Diphtheria
We built a house for our friend 6yo Babu, who has brain damage
We also helped Babu with major kidney surgery, and we pay for his schooling
We pay for Mohit's expensive monthly medicine, for a rare genetic disorder
We have treated countless eye infections like Miss Tonu here
We saved miss Manju's hand from gangrene and contracture after a burn
We helped our student Meenu with long-term care after a motorcycle accident
We counsel our students constantly about chewing tobacco, a major problem
We provide free food for our students, many of whom are malnourished
We've served more than 35,000 free meals!
We helped Anita with a major dental abscess, and a new home
We do our best to provide dental care for our students, not an easy task
We spent 17 days in the hospital with Nogon after he contracted tetanus
We provide chapati flour every month, enough for 100,000 servings so far!
We've supported Chanda, who is paralyzed from Diphtheria, for three years
