Pushkar is an ancient city of 20,000 people set in an arid valley amid the Aravali mountains, about 8 hours south of Delhi. Pushkar Lake is the center of the city, with a small residential area surrounded by desert and mountains and irrigated farms growing wheat and flowers. Pushkar is an important Hindu pilgrimage site, and is the cultural heart of Rajasthan.
